Wow! what a fantastic still life, so many references, it looks biblical – the pillar of salt thing – I am hopeless at biblical references but its ringing bells; then there is salt as a preserver of food for mariners particularly in the days when Australia was first ‘discovered’ and of course the salt washed from the soil to create the food bowl where you are working and the resultant salt pans, salinity issues etc. Salt displaced by water to irrigate food crops. Salt as the residue – the trace left behind as in your original concept of ‘water memory’. The salt of the oceans which conect all the corners of the earth – the persistent molecule that creates and defines the marine world, a separate universe here on earth from the freshwater and air environment we are so familiar with. Its a fantastic creation congratulations Julia nd Ken.

  2. I agree Helen – its really evocative of so many things.. I can’t wait to see it ‘in the flesh’ – or should that be ‘in the waterless-ness’?
